HARBOURS
The Harbours were one of my first truly successful commercial lines, and they hold a special place in my journey as an artist. They began during my first visit to Rock, Padstow, and the Camel Estuary. It was a classic, dreary English summer’s day—grey skies, a biting breeze, and that unmistakable dampness in the air. Yet what struck me most was the unwavering determination of English families to embrace the chilly sun and make the absolute best of the day. Their resilience and joy inspired my earliest “people on the beach” pieces, capturing the spirit, humour, and charm of seaside life. From that moment, the theme evolved naturally, becoming a foundation in my work and a reminder of the beauty found in ordinary coastal scenes.
